My Favorite Things

These are a few of my favorite things…

My tastes are constantly evolving (variety is the spice of life, after all), so be aware this list changes frequently!

MOVIES: Ohhhh, I can’t pick. I just can’t. I love action/adventure with a light touch of romance. Classic black-and-white films are comfort food to me. (See Joan Crawford obsession under Trivia.) Films I will always have sitting on my shelf: The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy; Gone in 60 Seconds; Ocean’s Eleven; The Last of the Mohicans; Pitch Black; The Patriot…okay, the list goes on and on.

MUSIC: My playlists are constantly rotating a variety of genres and artists. When writing, I mostly enjoy spinning instrumental movie soundtracks (Last of the Mohicans, King Arthur, Children of Dune and Catch & Release come up most frequently.) In the car, I’m usually playing Rob Thomas, Matchbox 20, Good Charlotte, The Fray or Owl City. When chilling, my favorites are Dido, Jewel and Melanie Doane.

BOOKS: Currently, I’m enjoying the wealth of extremely entertaining Young Adult fiction (Anna Godbersen, Libba Bray, Kai Meyer, Scott Westerfeld and of course, Stephenie Meyer.) I also love a good historical epic (Diana Gabaldon, Margaret George), or unique fantasy (such as Ted Dekker’s Circle Trilogy.) When I’m in the mood for light and funny, I always pick up Sophie Kinsella. You gotta love the classics, too – Edith Wharton and Louisa May Alcott rank among my favorite classical authors.

FOOD: Yes, please. (And if it’s a carbohydrate, I’m not sharing.)

BEVERAGE: Coffee. =)

COLORS: Earth tones: cocoa brown, forest green, autumn burgundy.

ANIMALS: Gorillas, whales (yes, I KNOW they’re mammals!), horses and pug puppies.

CANDY/CHOCOLATE: Lindor Dark Chocolate Truffles, Reese’s PB Cups and Smarties.

SEASON: Autumn. Not just because my birthday is in the fall but because the crisp turning of the weather, the kaleidoscope colors of the leaves and the hint of smoky air always leaves me feeling oddly content and satisfied.

SCRIPTURE VERSE: From the Message:

Psalm 31:24 – “Be brave. Be strong. Don’t give up. Expect God to get here soon.”

QUOTE: I don’t have a favorite because there are so many good ones out there! But at the top of my list is from the poet, Muriel Rukeyser: “The world is made of stories, not of atoms.”

ARTICLE OF CLOTHING: Hoodies. I get cold a lot.

TIME OF DAY: That moment late at night, when it feels as though all the world is at rest, and it’s just you, experiencing solitary wonders, before drifting into dreams.
